First Team Catch Up...
Nomads extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 14-11 victory over Norwich Knights. The reds are now on 8 points and comfortably placed in the top four alongside Mitcham, Trojans and table toppers Nottingham. The top scorer honour was split four ways between Sytze, Ean, Joe and Emma, showing the good depth of scoring options throughout the team. Certainly it is a stat that is sure to please coach Steve Green as he looks to cement Nomads hard earned position in the top four of English Korfball. Nomads return to Epsom for their next HSKL fixture as they host Invicta Sharks this coming Sunday the 14th of November as the newly expanded HSKL squeezes the extra four games into the calender. The concept of Multi Game Venues became even more of a complaint for the Reds as rather than playing this fixture in the homely surrounds of Epsom College in front of 50 or so loud and proud Nomads supporters, they and Bec travelled up to the UEA Sportspark in Norwich to complete this fixture as part of an MGV. Whether the idea was a success is for the EKA to decide but nomadskorf can deduce that a massively important two points were won by the players as Norwich continued to be a happy hunting ground for the reds. Maybe there's something in the water in those budget hotels! Limited report again as nomadskorf was busy in Bermondsey and the bright lights of LKA4 but my scouts have informed me that... We were down at half-time but fought back well in the second half to take a 3 goal lead which slipped away 1 by the last minutes and at end of game Bec had a shot that hit front and back of basket and fortunately for those in red, it proceeded roll out of the Korf so last minute drama nearly left both sides with a share of the spoils. Performance wise, Sam Rowbottom marked Karen Sparrow brilliantly, restricting her to a single goal which considering she thumped 8 goals past Norwich Knights the week before, is a performance worthy of great praise. Top work Sam! Also getting a special mention is Tessa for managing to score 6 past her girl (Welsh International, Tonya Richards-Clarke) despite playing with a bad ankle. Meanwhile Alex Bell stepped up to the plate when Bec restricted Bijker, Olds and Irwin to three goals between them with four goals of his own as Nomads continue to prove they are not ever reliant on a single player to win games as every player makes valuable, game winning contributions. Long may it continue. Team Alex Bell (4) Sytze Bijker (2) Ean Irwin (1) Joe Olds Emma Cole (2) Ana Osbourne, Tessa Kamphuis (6) Sam Rowbottom ___? As a final note, congratulations to Terry Forde on playing for Ireland in the recent European Korfball Championships in Holland.
