First Team Catch Up...

Nomads extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 14-11 victory over Norwich Knights. The reds are now on 8 points and comfortably placed in the top four alongside Mitcham, Trojans and table toppers Nottingham.

The top scorer honour was split four ways between Sytze, Ean, Joe and Emma, showing the good depth of scoring options throughout the team.

Certainly it is a stat that is sure to please coach Steve Green as he looks to cement Nomads hard earned position in the top four of English Korfball.

Nomads return to Epsom for their next HSKL fixture as they host Invicta Sharks this coming Sunday the 14th of November as the newly expanded HSKL squeezes the extra four games into the calender.

The concept of Multi Game Venues became even more of a complaint for the Reds as rather than playing this fixture in the homely surrounds of Epsom College in front of 50 or so loud and proud Nomads supporters, they and Bec travelled up to the UEA Sportspark in Norwich to complete this fixture as part of an MGV.

Whether the idea was a success is for the EKA to decide but nomadskorf can deduce that a massively important two points were won by the players as Norwich continued to be a happy hunting ground for the reds.

Maybe there's something in the water in those budget hotels!

Limited report again as nomadskorf was busy in Bermondsey and the bright lights of LKA4 but my scouts have informed me that...

We were down at half-time but fought back well in the second half to take a 3 goal lead which slipped away 1 by the last minutes and at end of game Bec had a shot that hit front and back of basket and fortunately for those in red, it proceeded roll out of the Korf so last minute drama nearly left both sides with a share of the spoils.

Performance wise, Sam Rowbottom marked Karen Sparrow brilliantly, restricting her to a single goal which considering she thumped 8 goals past Norwich Knights the week before, is a performance worthy of great praise. Top work Sam!

Also getting a special mention is Tessa for managing to score 6 past her girl (Welsh International, Tonya Richards-Clarke) despite playing with a bad ankle.

Meanwhile Alex Bell stepped up to the plate when Bec restricted Bijker, Olds and Irwin to three goals between them with four goals of his own as Nomads continue to prove they are not ever reliant on a single player to win games as every player makes valuable, game winning contributions.

Long may it continue.

Come On You Reds!

National Youth Day

Whilst certain website editors were off making a nuisance of themselves at a festival, the junior contingent of Nomads were competing at National Youth Day, the largest junior tournament in the Korfball calendar and a chance to put all they've learnt this year into action.

Nomads picked up some solid results with the highlight being the Under 16's triumph in their age group, finishing in first place. This is a win that bodes well for the future of the club, with many members of that squad already making an impact at senior level over the last few seasons.

The Under 13's and Under 9's put in strong performances too, the Under 13's finishing fifth and the Under 9's finished 8th out of a twenty team competition.

Congratulations and thanks to all the players, coaches and parents who have worked so hard this year and in the years before to give us such a pleasing set of results in National competition.

One only has to look at the number of former Nomads juniors in our Squad set up (even the coach!) to see the value and benefit of this hard work.

COME ON YOU REDS!

Round Up...

Tournament favourites The Reds suffered defeat two weeks running and are now out of contention for the Internal Summer Tournament title as they have been leapfrogged by the Whites and the Blacks who have both moved onto six points.

The Reds are now guaranteed to finish Third and they will be left as spectators and referees in the final week of the tournament.

With next weeks fixtures being an unexpected Whites v Blacks title decider and a wooden spoon deciding Blues v Greens match up there will be no dead rubber game in the final week.

It is the Whites though that hold the superior goal difference of plus sixteen and therefore a rather large upper hand in the contest as they would need to lose by four or more goals to throw away the title to their opponents The Blacks.

It would be great to see as many people as possible down to watch, play and ref and enjoy the post game banter in the bar afterwards so do come along and enjoy some Korfball in the sun!
